Due to the devastating fire that swept through Jonkershoek in Stellenbosch and the subsequent temporary closing of those trails, the SRAM South African DH Championships will now take place in Paarl.
The event takes place on the 27th and 28th of March and doubles as the opening round of the 2021 Western Cape DH series. All riders who previously entered for the race in Jonkershoek will automatically have their entry carried through to Paarl and for all riders who have not yet entered, time is running out. There will be no late entries or on-the-day entries at all. Entries are closing soon! Enter here.
Riders: Everything You Need To Know
Registration will take place in the forest at the race station (near the finish line and shuttle pick up point). You will be given number boards. Please ensure that you return these boards after the race on Sunday. On race day, Great-Time (official timers) will post your start times for the seeding run and the race run at the finish gazebo. Please consult these times (take a picture) and be at the race start at least 30 min before your race. The organizers will endeavour to have water at the top for the riders in case they have to wait in the sun, however, please take your own water. Sharon (our Commissaire) and starter always have a black bag to store personal items (reusable plastic water bottles, raincoats) which she leaves at the race station after the race. You need to remember to collect these items. When checking start times, PLEASE do NOT cross the finish line at any time. Walk around and make sure that your children are aware of this vital information.
Race points: As this is a CSA national event, there will be one seeding run (where riders score 25% of points on the National log) and one final race run, (the only run that counts for SA Champs). However, for the W-Cape Log, both runs will score full race points. Hendrico Burger will be our chief CSA Commissaire for the race.
Race Categories: If you are keen to compete competitively and be eligible for WC Colours, you need to have a CSA membership and enter into the downhill classes. (See classes at the end of the newsletter) However, we do love all bike-enthusiasts and offer some fun, Sports & eBike classes for those just wanting to have some fun. Day licences (R50.00) are available for these non-competitive riders. No prize-giving or prizes, only results.
Covid compliance: Legislation requires you to wear a mask or helmet at the event. If you are racing, you have a helmet on, when that comes off, you need a mask. Spectators are not permitted however mechanical support for riders, marshals, shuttles drivers and support crew are. Please keep your social distance and wear a mask at all times. All riders need to sign-in on the Covid form and have their temperatures taken before collecting race packs.
