Meet Steadyrack, A wall-mounted, vertical bike storage solution now in SA
The crew at Best Bike Storage is stoked to announce the arrival of Steadyrack, an award-winning bike rack that swivels to sit flush with the wall and requires very little strength to load the bike into. Here’s the lowdown from them on how it all works.
Dream Bike Storage
The struggle for safe, user-friendly and efficient bike storage is over. Considering the unparalleled functionality and efficiency of the Steadyrack, it’s no wonder this award-winning bike rack has ‘re-imagined bike storage’ for the user. Designed to meet many personalized bike storage needs, from cramped apartments to commercial bike parking, this wall-mounted, vertical bike storage solution is created for every space.
Functionality and safety
Designed to hold bikes weighing up to 35kg, with no lifting involved, the Steadyrack is an excellent option for eBike storage. The rack is designed to use the mechanical advantage of the rolling front wheel, allowing you to roll the bike into the rack without having to lift it. Perhaps one of the most innovative aspects of the design of the Steadyrack, is the pivoting arm. With the front wheel in the cradle and the back wheel slightly off the floor, the Steadyrack can swivel up to 160 degrees left and right, making it even more practical and space-efficient, especially in tight spaces. With most hooks on the market, the bike stands out perpendicular to the wall, occupying unnecessary floor space. In a garage, being able to push the bike back against the wall and out the way, is hugely helpful. In a cramped apartment, balcony or bike storage room, the swivel function allows for more flexibility and easier access to other bikes; since the bike is not fixed in one position and can be maneuvered around in the rack to make your space more functional. If you are storing multiple bikes, by using the staggered method of installation, you can install racks at alternating heights, enabling you to get more bikes in less wall space, without having to worry about the hassle of dislodging handlebars. The bike can be loaded and offloaded from the Steadyrack at any angle and the rack can also be folded up when not in use.
While cheaper, vertical hanging hooks can jeopardize the rim or spokes, with Steadyrack, there’s no risk of scratching or damaging the rim, frame or spokes, with the tire being the only part of the bike in contact with the rack, which is especially beneficial to those riders who favor deep dish and carbon wheels. Once the bike is pushed into the arm of the rack, it’s secure and will not fall out, even if you have an accidental flat tire. Product range
There are four products within the Steadyrack range to suit all bike types. The most popular is the MTB Rack. The Classic Rack is designed for road bikes and there is also a Fender and Fat Rack. With the front tire designed to fit snuggly into the pivoting arm, the main difference between the rack types is the width of the tire they can accommodate. With special mention to the Fender Rack, not only intended for bikes with fenders and mudguards but also designed to fit bikes with a tight tolerance between the downtube and front tires, such as TT and Areo bikes. It is possible to use the MTB Rack and Classic Rack somewhat interchangeably, however, this will cause a sloppier or more snug fit between the tire and the arm. Each Steadyrack comes with a mountable rear wheel bracket, this assists to keep the bike in alignment as well as protects the wall from dirty tire marks. See the different options here.
When it comes to installation, Steadyrack has made it as easy as possible. The Steadyrack itself comes preassembled with only the mounting of the rack and the rear wheel bracket required. With the mounting kit supplied in the box, all you will need is a drill and a tape measure. Installation is straightforward but follow the instructions and take your time here. There are a few nuances to getting the Steadyrack mounted perfectly, such as ensuring it is at the right height. If the rack is mounted with the rear wheel touching the floor, it will not be able to swivel. If the rack is mounted too high, you will need to lift the bike into the arm, compromising on the Steadyrack’s unique functionality. While it may be fine to lift road and racing bikes, when it comes to heavier bikes, you really want to ensure you have the ideal mounted height, with the back wheel 50 to 75mm from the floor.
