It’s now or never for the Olympic hopefuls.
This year sees 6 Cross-Country races and 5 Downhill races take place between May and September across 7 countries.
The first two XC races will be crucial for riders looking to go to the Olympics as these are the main events for them to earn sufficient points to qualify for Tokyo. After an exciting first round in Albstadt, Germany, we advance to the second round of the Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in the Czech Republic to the stop voted ‘Best Event’ eight times – Nové Město Na Moravě. The 3.9 km-long track Is a true test for the riders featuring steep climbs, technical descents, unforgiving rock gardens and a host of tree roots that will punish even the slightest drop in focus.
On the race weekend, riders take on both the Cross Country Short Track (XCC) and Cross Country Olympic (XCO). Friday’s Cross-Country Short Track race lasts approx. 20 minutes and, apart from the 125 World Cup points on offer, determines the crucial starting spots for the longer Cross-Country Olympic race on Sunday which lasts approx. 90 minutes.
Who to watch
We just hope Fluckiger’s dropper doesn’t blow up so he can show everyone what he’s got this year. Racing kicks off at 15H00 Friday and again at 11H00 on Sunday. Head to https://win.gs/UCIWorldCup2021 to watch.
