Richard Coram is a co-founder and operator of the Freewheel Cycology bike store in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. He started riding at an early age and his all-out love affair with the world of cycling continues to grow. Now, with 20 years of experience in the bike industry, both locally and internationally, he’s known as the guy with the know-how to help all riders make the right purchasing decisions. Richard is also known for his ability to produce fast laps on just about any gravity run in Cape Town and for being pretty particular about bike setup, especially when it comes to his own rig. What’s your favorite component / feature on the bike? Probably the geometry of the frame. The Gen 3 Geo is incredible.

If you sold the bike, what component would you keep for your next bike? Hmmm, with the current stock situation probably the brakes.

What surprises you the most about this bike? How much am I enjoying the Mullet setup. It’s incredible.

Any imminent component upgrades and why? I’m extremely close to pulling the trigger on a Push Industries rear shock. Won’t help the range on the bike with the additional weight but the feel of a coil on a bike again is something that I last experienced a very long time ago and I’m keen to try it again.

What do you enjoy the most about this bike? It’s a nimble machine in the tight stuff for such a ‘big’ bike and very versatile.

Richard runs 111psi in the Fox 38 fork, with 2 volume spacers with the rebound clickers on the faster side.

The FOX X2 shock has 285psi, 2 tokens with the rebound clickers on the slower side. Richard never uses the climb switch when riding.

Richard swapped out the standard 780mm bars for a wider 800mm set and with the Deity grips they measure 810mm. Looks like that membership board needs to be swapped out too, Mr Coram. #2022
