Lake Placid XC World Cup Recap
Fast and exciting race weekend for SA riders at the World Cup in Lake Placid, USA.
It was another amazing weekend for SA’s powerhouse, Alan Hatherly. With a third in Saturday’s Short Track and a second in Sunday’s Cross-country, Alan extends his lead in the overall to 259 points, with just one round to go.
Alan’s weekend was not without drama; a burped tyre halfway through Sunday’s race cost Alan close on 50 seconds and at the time it was almost certain he wouldn’t finish inside the top 10, let alone a podium. However, in his first outing with the rainbow stripes, Alan rode himself back to the front group and astonished everyone by sprinting to a second place finish.
In the Women’s Racing, Candice Lill set an electric pace on the climbs and led for most of Sunday’s Cross-country race. In the end, she was out-charged on the last lap but still took a brilliant fourth place finish. With her 11th place during Saturday’s Short Track, she now sits third in the overall.
In the u23 Short Track and Cross-country, South Africa’s Tyler Jacobs placed 20th and 23rd, with Luke Moir 11th and 23rd, respectively. It’s another brilliant set of results from a crew of South African riders that continues to fly the flag abroad – crushing records and making history in the process.//
