The 46th edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour takes place on the 10th of March 2024 and entries for the 42km and 109km distances have opened.
The 109km – the classic route
The 109km route takes cyclists through the Southern Suburbs, along the False Bay coast and past the puzzled penguins of Simon’s Town. After the Cape Point Nature Reserve, the halfway mark, they cool off in Scarborough and Misty Cliffs before getting their first sight of the world-famous Chapman’s Peak Drive. The final ascent of the day, Suikerbossie, provides one of the legendary challenges of the route, followed by the descents through Camp’s Bay and Clifton, finishing in Green Point.
The 42km – half the effort, all the spirit
The 42km event was successfully launched in 2023, and provided thousands of riders who might not have been quite ready for the full lap, the opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city. Far from a mundane meander along a closed freeway, they will again enjoy the vineyards of Constantia and the cooling Newlands Forest on their return, without skipping any of the big-event organization the 109km riders enjoy.
“This year’s launch of the 42km route was great for the event,” says Paula Barnard of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust. “It is a wonderful way to experience the festival of cycling the 109km distance offers, and we are looking forward to welcoming even more entries in 2024. What a perfect way to introduce schools and clubs to the adventure that is the Cape Town Cycle Tour; a challenge they can keep accepting.”
“The Cape Town Cycle Tour turns 46 this year, and we have a strong group of loyal members who ride it year after year, enjoying the day of two-wheeled freedom in one of Africa’s busiest cities. And it’s such a beautiful ride – the sea, the mountain, the wildlife; there can’t be a prettier mass-participation ride in the world. A true celebration of cycling in a beautiful city that everyone must join,” concludes Barnard.
