Event Focus: Prize Purse announced for Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic
This year marks the 22nd edition of the Magaliesberg’s most iconic one-day mountain bike race, the Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic. With a sizeable prize purse recently announced, the racing should be exciting.
Renowned for both its on and off-route experience, the Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic routes provide all the hallmarks of a truly South African mountain bike race featuring the necessary ingredients that a quality mountain bike race should have, namely a great setting, spectacular scenery, technically challenging sections with unique single track and a fantastic atmosphere as you ride through an area that was formed 2 billion years ago.
Adding to the spice is a total prize purse of R52 000 (spread across the trail run and mountain bike races) “We would like to offer mountain bikers and trail runners an added incentive to give their all at the Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic Marathon (+-65km) and Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run Long Route (+-24km) in 2023,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “Marathon riders will compete for their share in R30 000. The Overall Men’s and Women’s winners will each take home R5000, with R3000 going to the second-place finisher and R2000 to the third-place finisher. The Top Three finishers in the following categories will also be rewarded for their efforts: Senior Men and Women, Sub Vet Men and Women, Vet Men and Women, Master Men and Women and Grandmaster Men and Women.”
The racing takes place over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of June at the ATKV Buffelspoort venue, about 25km west of Pretoria. The events to chose from include a 65km marathon, 33km half marathon, 16km fun ride or the 2,5km kids race. See the full prize purse or enter here
