Avoiding a weather washout the final round of the 2023 WC Enduro series was moved a day earlier and riders were treated to trail conditions that couldn’t have been better.
With another wild storm forecast for Sunday, the race came close to being canceled – by the provincial authorities. However, being a double-header event that attracted riders from across the country, the volunteer organizer crew acted quickly and spent Friday on the mountain getting the stages, timing equipment and admin ready to race a day early. Good morning Jonkershoek! Doubling as Round 3 of SA Enduro Champs meant riders from outside of Western Cape were in town to rally.Youth Men and general gravity guru Pieter Venter warms the vibe with some gees.A frisky 7° morning meant everybody was stoked to be moving.Fresh from some riding in the French Alps, Sven Etsebeth was untouchable in the Sub Junior Boys category, taking the win by some margin. This kid moves!Samuel Cleary went 11th, 8th, 9th and 29th on each stage which secured a solid P10 in the overall with P5 in the highly competitive Youth Men category. P12 in the overall and owning the Elite Women’s category is Stellenbosch’s Frankie du Toit. Michard and his crew keeping their front tyres fresh. #GripBabyPieter Venter is always flying. Few riders in SA have been racing gravity events for as long as Dale. Very few! What a legend.Ruben Sander – crushing it!It was a disappointing P8 in Youth Men for SA DH Champ, Alexander Jonker.A charging Jozua Bruwer took P2 in Nipper Boys cat. Holding the throttle open all day paid off for Luca Zietsman with a P4 in the overall and P1 in Youth Men.A strong ride by Kai Jansen Van Vuuren to take the win in the Lite Men class.Heels down, eyes forward and smooth as!
