Holguín Makes History With Record Time At Red Bull Valparaíso Cerro Abajo 2026

Colombian Sebastián Holguín banked a brilliant record time of 2:15.432 down the iconic and fearsome Red Bull Valparaíso Cerro Abajo course in Chile on Sunday to win the 2026 edition of the urban mountain bike downhill race from France’s Adrien Loron and home hope Felipe Agurto.

Cheered on by Chilean fans, Felipe Agurto secured a podium spot in his home race.

After Brazilian Roger Vieira claimed the first win of the 25-26 urban downhill World Series in Genova back in August 2025, the series moved to the lively city of Valparaíso in Chile and the most famous race of its kind in the world.

With winding streets, steep hills, historic funiculars (ascensores), and vibrant, graffiti-covered buildings, Valparaíso’s cityscape was the perfect setting for the raw, unpredictable racing as 34 riders looked to thrill the crowds lining the streets.

Street racing legend Tomas Slavik gets drifty.

The track this year stretched approximately 1.65km, featuring a vertical drop of around 230 metres and nearly 280 steps along the way, complemented by signature man-made features such as ramps, wallrides, and jumps with the likes of last year’s winner Tomáš Slavík (CZE), two-time Valparaíso winner Pedro Ferreira (CHI) and 2025 podium finishers Agurto (CHI) and Lucas Borba (BRA) lining up.

The world’s elite riders delivered a fiercely contested battle, with the top spot swapping hands amid razor-thin time gaps that underscored the sky-high level of competition after the original field of 34 was whittled down to 15 of the world’s best urban downhill riders for Sunday’s final day.

So much style.

Emotions ran high as Czech Slavík took the lead in his attempt to make it a record five wins here – after 2017, 2018, 2023 and 2025 victories – however Brazilian Gabriel Giovannini just got ahead of him followed by Agurto and then Loron, who put down an incredible run that had the crowd on their feet.

Holguín, though, kept his nerve last man down the course to master Valparaíso’s steep hills and maze-like streets by flowing down the extreme gradients and relentless stair sections to speed into the last section and cross the finish line in a spectacular record time of 2:15.432 and secure the win by 0.789s.

Camilo Sanchez with a flatty.

After becoming the first Colombian winner since Marcelo Gutiérrez in 2013, the 21-year-old said: “I was really focused to enjoy my ride all the way to the bottom. I knew I was pushing my limits and going fast. I think in the middle of the run I knew, I have this bit, I’m going to win – it was in my mind all time. This is the biggest urban downhill race in the world, and to win it – it’s just amazing, I’m really happy.

Loron, 33, revealed: “It’s really important for me to be consistent, that’s very hard in urban DH. Super happy about the second place, and to be safe and enjoy this result with my family.”

Lucas Vegas rallies the short dirt section.

Chilean fan favourite Agurto added: “I’m very happy for my run. I know that always, always, you have to push a bit more. I know the other riders are so good. Now in the third place, but will keep training and we’ll see.”

Despite missing out on his own Valparaíso record win at the 22nd edition, 38-year-old Slavík added: “The level of riding is constantly being pushed over the limit, and once again it was done here in Valparaíso today. It’s the first time ever that I’m fifth and I’m stoked about it.
