Andrew Mclean is one of the all-time greats of South African cycling. The length of time that Andrew spent at the top of the game, on an Elite and Veteran level, is almost unprecedented. Since first selected to represent South Africa back in 1988 he has gone on to complete 10 Cape Epics, is a former Road and TT National Champion, has won medals at Road Worlds and MTB Worlds, the Trans Alps and list goes on… Maintaining a world-class level of performance for 30 years is an outstanding achievement. This is Andrew’s current steed, an Orbea Oiz.

A legend of the sport.

What’s on your bike yet not easily available in South Africa?

An unbelievably loud bell to ring and ask riders to move over – This bike is Fast. Hahaha

If you sold the bike, what component would you keep for your next bike?

My bell — only joking — the AXS Reverb dropper post.

What surprises you the most about this bike?

The three-phase / position suspension and the low weight.

Any imminent component upgrades?

Yes, I’m about to fit a Reverb AXS dropper post.

What do you enjoy the most about this bike?

It’s a lightweight race machine. I like the geometry, it climbs well and is stable on the descents.
