Pirelli launches a new light and fast Pro-level tubeless road tyre
Today, Pirelli officially dropped their latest road racing tyre, the P Zero Race TLR RS. They are saying it has 16% less rolling resistance than their already super quick P Zero Race version which has been around for a while. Here’s what we know…
In use since the beginning of the season by the Lidl-Trek pro riders, the tyre has already racked up 70 podiums and 30 wins at races like Strada Bianche, Liege-Bastogne-Liege and Paris Roubaix. Pirelli also mentioned to us that the new P Zero Race RS tyre has been victorious at the Giro, Gent-Wevelgem and closer to home, the SA Road and TT Champs.
The new tyre has been designed for racing and is hence geared to handle all weather conditions. The secret sauce to the high rolling speed, premium grip and light weight comes from a new compound they developed inside the same facilities that create their motorsports offerings. Their new SmartEVO2 Compound in the P Zero Race TLR RS tyre enhances polymeric chains to maximize rolling speed and grip.
Being an all-out race tyre, the casing and tread is a little different too. Mostly, it’s a little lighter but the thickness of the tread has been altered to improve rolling speed. The P Zero Race TLR RS is a tubeless ready tyre and with a tweak to the layup of the internal Kevlar strands is compatible with all new-generation hooked or hookless rims. Local availability is immediate and pricing will vary so check in with your local bike store for more on that. //
