It’s a full makeover for the brand’s entire downhill drivetrain.

SRAM’s new XX DH Transmission drivetrain is designed to handle shifting under full sprinting power, be more robust, shift faster and run quieter than the previous iteration. It operates off the AXS fully wireless electronic Pods, T-Type flattop chain and hangerless derailleur design.

The derailleur skid plates, outer link and cage are all replaceable components.

With the Hangerless Interface, the new SRAM XX DH derailleur employs the same robust architecture as the brand’s Transmission derailleurs – wrapped into a DH-focused design. The Full Mount clamps around both sides of the frame, thereby eliminating the need for a hanger. This means in the case of an impact, the derailleur can rotate backward to absorb the hit. The skid plates, outer link and cage are all replaceable components.

Shifting speed is apparently quicker than the previous (cable) iterations.

The new cassette has a 10-24t gear spread, is only compatible with T-Type chains and features the brand’s X-SYNC tooth profile which according to SRAM is the foundation of a quick and confident shift. We are told the system shifts quicker, both inboard and outboard, than any previous iterations and can shift under full load. It is available in two variants, XD and XD Slim to optimize for different hub dimensions.

The 104 BCD interface chainring design and crankset allows for Ochain compatibility.

The aluminum crankset runs 32, 34 or 36t chainrings with crank lengths of 165, 160, 155 and 150mm lengths. A nice touch is the high-wear surfaces have a machined finish to keep the cranks looking fresh. The 104 BCD interface chainring design and crankset allows for Ochain compatibility, on all bike types.

Crank lengths now start at a stubby 150mm length.

The system runs off the AXS Pod controller that features a two button design for shifting. It’s a flippable design that can be mounted left or right-handed, and through the AXS app the buttons can be customized for up or down shifting. The drivetrain has almost a full season of testing at a World Cup level. Hidden in plain sight, it recorded multiple podiums and wins. Local availability is early March. //
