Alongside the new Deore and Deore XT components, Shimano has released a thicker rotor aimed at improving stopping dynamics, for aggressive riders and ride styles.

Available in both 200mm and 220mm sizes, the updated design increases rotor thickness from 1.75mm to 2.2mm, which should provide a noticeable boost in performance and reliability. eMTB, Enduro, Freeride and Downhill riders deal with steep descents, blown-out corners and technical elements that require more than just brutal stopping force, they demand control and modulation too. Moving to a thicker rotor will do just that.

Shimano is saying that riders will also benefit from increased durability and impact resistance, reducing the risk of bending a rotor in a crash.

The other notable change is the shift from 203mm size to 200mm. With this change, Shimano simplifies brake setup and alignment, reducing the need for extra shims or adaptors which enables a cleaner caliper interface, with broader frame and fork compatibility.
