New: The legendary Shimano XT Trail Pedals get an overhaul
Bigger, stronger and even easier to clip into…
In 2019, Shimano released an update to their XT Trail pedal making it wider, increasing rearward shoe support and adding a couple other improvements. It’s been one of my favorite pedals for XC and light trail riding. Today, they’ve dropped details on their newest version, which I think is now the third generation and there’s some notable changes.
It’s a more robust design, with yet a wider contact platform for an even more stable shoe / pedal interface. The contact surface has been raised a little which Shimano says makes it easier to clip in and they’ve added four adjustable traction pins to provide more grip when unclipped.
The pedals are optimized for Shimano’s new cleat and will have multi-directional entry, which is obviously ideal for Trail riding. By beefing up the entire cage section of the pedal, Shimano says its overall a more robust pedal and will be able to withstand things like harsh rock strikes and other trail impacts. The seals have also been updated which Shimano says is a move to enhance durability. We are told the pedals weigh 472grams per pair and as we understand it local availability is scheduled for August. //
