New: Shimano releases a mechanical version of Deore

Today Shimano dropped details on their fully updated and budget-friendly Deore component range. It’s cable-actuated shifting, more powerful brakes, enhanced chain stability and what looks like an overall more robust range than before. With local availability scheduled for August, here’s the official release straight from Shimano.
New technology and a sleek finish elevates the Deore range.
With options for all categories of riding, built to the standard of Shimano MTB groups and matching the sleek black and grey finish of Deore Di2, Shimano presents the new Deore. All the hallmarks of a true MTB group are delivered with high-power brakes, lightning-fast mechanical shifting – even under load, a derailleur designed to survive big hits and vastly improved ergonomics.

Built for riders who value durability, quick shifting, mechanical simplicity, and consistent braking, the new Deore lineup brings advanced derailleur design, improved ergonomics, and performance braking options to one of mountain biking’s most trusted component families. At the heart of the new Deore drivetrain is the robust rear derailleur engineered to deliver smooth, reliable shifting even under heavy pedaling. The derailleur features a low-profile wedge shape stabilizer design, similar to Shimano’s latest Di2 mountain bike drivetrains.

Its slim shape helps deflect trail impacts and avoid snagging on rocks or obstacles, allowing the derailleur to spring back into position without missing a shift. There are three derailleurs in the new Deore range. A 12-speed option for Hyperglide+, a ‘lower cost’ 12-speed option for Hyperglide+ and an 11-speed version for Linkglide.

The new Deore crankset delivers dependable power transfer through a two-piece design with a 24mm steel axle and optimized 176mm Q-factor. A new one-piece steel chainring incorporates Shimano’s Dynamic Chain Engagement technology, improving driving efficiency, durability, and chain retention in rough terrain with a clean look. Available crank lengths will be 165, 170 and 175mm with 30T and 32T chainring options.
To serve different price points, Shimano introduces two new 12-speed cassette options within the Deore lineup. The CS-M7200 pairs durable steel cogs with a 51T alloy cog for a lighter, more performance-oriented package. The CS-M6200 prioritizes value and maximum durability to withstand season after season of use.

The new Deore shifter delivers improved ergonomics and a more precise shifting feel. The redesigned lever features a shorter stroke and crisp actuation, paired with an optimized paddle that creates a nearly straight path for the first two shifts. This improvement in ergonomics follows the movement of the human hand, allowing riders to engage the shifter more naturally.
Multiple shifters are available to accommodate different bikes and drivetrain options. For 12-speed Hyperglide+ drivetrains, the SL-M6200 shifter features multi-shift for regular bikes, while the SL-M6210 shifter is designed as an option for high-torque e-bikes and allows only single shifts to avoid cassette damage. A third shifter option, the SL-M6230, is designed for 11-speed Linkglide systems. All Deore shifters are available in both I-SPEC EV and clamp band options.

The new Deore brake levers and calipers benefit directly from trickle-down technology developed at the XTR and Deore XT levels. The result is refined power delivery and predictable modulation that remains consistent across changing terrain and temperatures. The updated Deore system allows riders to tailor braking performance to their needs, pairing a single-lever (BL-M6200) with either a powerful four-piston caliper (BR-M6220) or a lighter two-piston option (BR-M6200). Upgraded internal seals and Shimano’s reformulated low-viscosity mineral oil ensure smooth fluid flow between lever and caliper, maintaining consistent braking feel in both hot and cold conditions.
The lever features Shimano’s Servo Wave track for faster pad engagement and smooth, controllable power ramp-up. In combination with the newly designed calipers, the system delivers stable piston rebound and reliable performance across long descents and changing trail conditions. //
