Say hello to the S500 AXS, S200 and S100 drivetrains

SRAM has introduced three new drivetrains designed to streamline its lineup by replacing nine older models that have become outdated since the arrival of both electronic and mechanical Transmission groups. The new S500 AXS, S200 and S100 are intended to simplify choices for riders using earlier systems when it comes time to replace parts or for anyone looking for a drivetrain that isn’t based on the T-type platform.

Eagle S500 AXS

S500 is the top-tier in the new S-Series range and is built with premium materials (lighter and stronger) and exclusive finishes like the oil slick or gold finishes. The idea is to offer an easier pathway for all riders to the AXS (a.k.a wireless electronic shifting) setup. S500 is ready for mountain bikes, eBikes or gravel applications. It pairs seamlessly with every version of the AXS controller, including drop‑bar shifters which makes it pretty versatile.

S500 is compatible with 50T or 52T cassettes, features the brand’s overload clutch that protects against impacts and has the brand’s Type 3 cage damper that improves chain retention. It is a carbon crankset that is available in 175, 170 or 165mm lengths and runs the 3-bolt X-SYNC 2 chainring. Essentially, S500 is the replacement option for the legacy Eagle AXS components of XX1, XO1, GX and X1.

Eagle S200

The S200 is a mechanical shifting offering, with an aluminum crankset and pairs with a 50T or 52T cassettes. There’s an impressive array of crank arm lengths – running from 175 to 155mm, in 5mm increments.

The shape and ergonomics of the S200 shifter are similar to those of the new Eagle 90, with stealth cabling, Matchmaker compatibility and a textured lever. Eagle S200 is the new replacement option for the previous Eagle models of XX1, XO1 and GX.

Eagle S100

The most wallet-friendly of the S-Series is the S100. The derailleur uses a spring-based clutch, has a 500% range and pairs with Eagle drivetrain shifters.

The bottom three gears on the cassette, the 11t, 13t and 15t are replaceable and the cassette is compatible with a splined driver body. Chainring sizes run from 30t to 34t and they feature the same X-Sync 2 profile that optimizes chain retention.

All of the new drivetrains are compatible with regular chains (not the new flattop verion) and are eMTB compatible. As for local pricing, there is no set standard here in South Africa so best to chat to your local bike shop about that. //
